TLC Humane Society Foster Care Information

Foster homes are the mainstay of TLC's animal care program. TLC accepts all the animals it has space for, placing them into the homes of volunteers. TLC does not have a facility to house animals at this time.

TLC provides its foster homes with food, supplies, medical care, animal care information, equipment as needed, and adoption opportunities for the animal.

Authorized foster caregivers provide care and love for the animals.  Authorized foster care providers:

  • Agree to accept animals from TLC Humane Society into their home.
  • Agree to make the animals available for adoption.
  • Agree to abide by the policies and procedures of TLC Humane Society.
  • Agree to abide by the animal protection ordinances of the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
  • Attest that all persons living at the residence want to foster TLC animals.
  • Attest that no person living at the residence has ever been convicted of domestic, child or animal abuse.

There are always animals that need foster homes. We often have to refuse to take in animals because of lack of space in our foster homes. If you are interested in information about becoming a TLC Authorized Foster Care Provider please contact us. Your home can keep an animal from being refused by TLC.

A contract is required by the Georgia Department of Agriculture for all foster home providers. Following is a copy of the contract used by TLC Humane Society.

TLC Humane Society Authorized Foster Home Agreement

Animals accepted for authorized foster care are approved through the policies and procedures of TLC. Foster homes provide daily care for the animals. Animals remain the property of TLC Humane Society until the adoption process is completed.

A foster home may not accept animals into authorized foster care without approval by an authorized member of the Animal Services Committee.

TLC Humane Society agrees to:

  • Provide available information about the animal to the foster home.
  • Provide food, supplies, equipment and approved medical care.
  • Provide all paperwork needed for the care of the animal.
  • Provide animal care information.
  • Provide adoption opportunities and actively promote the animal for adoption.
  • Be responsible for all decisions made about this animal.

As an authorized foster care provider, I agree to:

  • Abide by all foster care regulations of the Georgia Department of Agriculture, including:
  • Provide humane treatment, and adequate food, water, and shelter at all times.
  • Provide a clean, well-maintained environment.
  • Allow no permanent tethering of dogs.
  • Maintain a program of disease control and prevention.
  • Maintain operable fire extinguishers at my residence. Smoke detectors are recommended.
  • Submit to inspections of the premises.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures of TLC Humane Society, including:
  • Provide safe daily care and attention to the animal at my place of residence.
  • Feed cats and dogs twice daily or free choice, feed weaned puppies and kittens at least three times daily.
  • Use approved procedures and paperwork for medical care.
  • Use food, medications, supplies and equipment provided by TLC for foster animals only. Exceptions are to be approved by an authorized member of the Animal Services Committee.
  • Rehabilitate the animal as needed.
  • Contact the foster home coordinator immediately should anything unusual occur, such as sickness, injury or loss of the animal. Foster Care Coordinator_____________________________phone number/e-mail______________________
  • Actively present the animal for adoption.
  • Present the animal for adoption clean, free of disease and with a current medical record.
  • Pick up an unadopted animal at a designated time and place following adoption opportunities.
  • Accompany the animal to adoption opportunities whenever possible.
  • Accept the animal back into my care should the animal be returned by an adopter.
  • Return in good condition, normal wear and tear excepted, all equipment and usable supplies provided by TLC when no longer needed or when requested by TLC.
  • Abide by county and local animal regulations.

I have read this agreement and the Georgia Department of Agriculture regulations. All persons living in my household agree to comply with this agreement. No person living in my household has ever been convicted of domestic, child or animal abuse.
